Airbnb is already way more affordable than a hotel. Throw in an Airbnb coupon code and some other discounts below and you’ll be able to keep some money aside to treat yourself to better meals and experiences on your next travels.
I am the epitome of a frugal traveler, so I’ve almost made a game out of getting the most from my Airbnb coupon code along with other discounts. This is my version of extreme couponing.
The Biggest Airbnb Coupon Code for New Users
New customers just signing up for Airbnb qualify for up to a $75 discount* off of their first booking through the app or website. That can be used towards your first Airbnb rental or even an Airbnb Experience. This promo code only works for new users and the first rental needs to be used on at least a
$75 $300 booking. At the minimum, that would be $40 out of pocket for you if you used this discount code on a $75 trip.
The 2021 Airbnb coupon code has different terms that gives you a much bigger discount, but requires a larger minimum booking:
Spend $300, get $15
Spend $500, get $25
Spend $700, get $35
Spend $1,000 or more, get $50
Additionally, you can get an extra $15 off when booking your first Airbnb experience that costs at least $50 before the code’s discount.
==>Get the discount here<==
Just a heads up, this is my own personal Airbnb discount referral code. I get a kickback from Airbnb for referring you through the link. From everything I’ve been able to look into, the best discount you can get for your first Airbnb rental is going to be from one of these referral links whether you decide to use mine or someone else’s. #honesty
*They used to have a $40 off your first stay deal which dropped to $35 at some point in 2019 or early 2020, but at the time of this posting looks like a $50 Airbnb discount for 2021 given you book a more expensive place! You can also get extra money back by booking an Experience, which I highly recommend after doing a couple in Barcelona and Rome.
Referral Discounts for Existing Accounts
If you already have an account and want to save money Airbnb will occasionally (rarely…very rarely) offer discount codes for current members. I’ll share those Airbnb coupon codes here whenever I find them online or if someone shares them with me, but below are more discounts for existing Airbnb customers.
Where to Find Discount Airbnb Gift Cards
There are websites that people can buy and sell gift cards securely. I use them all of the time for regular shopping, but I realized that some of them have gift cards for Airbnb available. The discounts will vary based on who is selling them, but you can usually get a good deal. The cards are safe to buy so you don’t have to worry about paying for a card that someone else will use right away. In the unlikely event that you buy a card with less than you paid for or nothing on it, these sites will give you your money back. My favorite sites that offer Airbnb gift card discounts are Raise.com and Gift Card Wiki.
2 Ways to Get More Discounts from Raise.com
My Bonus – If you have never used Raise.com before to buy a discount gift card, you can get $5 off of your first order by clicking here and signing up. You can also get a cashback reward for your purchases on Raise.
Rakuten Cash Back – If you haven’t signed up for Rakuten Rewards (formerly known as Ebates) yet, you should probably do it now. Install the Chrome extension for it then when you are on the Raise website it will ask you if you want to activate it for 1% cashback. Click yes and you’ll get a cashback amount equal to 1% of your purchase available to send to your Paypal account. Keep the Rakuten Rewards extension running always because it will pop up on any site that offers you cashback!
Groupon and Living Social for more Airbnb Deals
If you’re currently in the middle of searching for an Airbnb location, don’t skip these two sites. Each of them occasionally runs deals where you can buy credit for Airbnb accommodations at a significant discount. It’s worth a quick Googling to see what’s available whenever you are booking a trip.
Ask for a Discount
When you’re booking a trip on Airbnb, you’re dealing with a person NOT a big corporation. The price listed on each post is the ideal amount that a host is looking to get for a given time period. That doesn’t mean they aren’t willing to negotiate for a lower deal. This is going to be much easier to do with new hosts, slower travel dates, and when you are deciding to stay longer than a week. The worst thing that can happen is they say no and it is over email so you don’t even need to see them do it.
Share Your Airbnb Promo Code for Travel Credits
This is a simple way to bank a bunch of money into your account to use for a discounted…or an entirely free stay with Airbnb. When you share your code, you’ll get
$20 $15 for every new user that signs up and books a trip for $75 or more. You’ll also earn an additional $10 if they sign up for a qualifying experience.
To get your code on the website: login on the top right-hand side of the screen click “credit” then “invite friends.” You may have to confirm your phone number first, but after that, you’ll have your link you can share. The code at the end of the link is what you can have people type into the coupon code box. It is in the format www.airbnb.com/c/THISISTHECODE
You can also find your personal promo code on your app. This is for iOS users with iPhones, but I imagine it would be similar to Androids and other cell phones. Fire up the app then click on your profile in the bottom right corner. There should be a link that says “Invite friends” that you’ll open up. Go in there and either share it via email, SMS, or social media. You can also copy the link and pull your code out as I mentioned above.
Budget Travel Hack: Combining Discounts for Huge Airbnb Discounts
If you want to get the biggest discount on Airbnb, you can combine the discounts. Don’t just use the promo code and call it a day. You can easily stack these on top of each other to get the best deal. It’ll just take a few extra minutes and a couple of searches.
I first used Airbnb to stay in a shared apartment in Barcelona. My first Airbnb rental I was able to save a total of about $55 by using someone else’s $35 coupon code, getting a $200 gift card for an 8% discount, and using the Raise first-timer code for another $5 off. Had I thought to ask for a lower rate from the host, I probably could have saved another $20 or $30 since I was traveling during the shoulder season.
I can’t reuse the $35 promo code again, but now I’m working on sharing mine so I can supplement future trips and I’ll 100% use a discount gift card site to bring down the difference.
Can You Reuse Airbnb Coupon Code with a New Account?
The short answer is no. Technically you can, but you’ll probably get caught. Airbnb’s terms of service say you cannot make multiple accounts for the same person. You especially can’t do that to game the system for additional discounts.
However, you can have other people sign up. Are you traveling with your mother or father? Is your husband, wife, girlfriend, boyfriend, old fraternity brother joining you on the trip? Well, now you have a way to double-dip for a bigger discount.
Share your code with the person you are traveling with and have them create an account. By doing that, they will get the benefit of saving $40 with your personal Airbnb coupon code. In addition, you’ll be given a bonus referral credit into your account that you can use later. You can even use it on the same trip to book an Airbnb Experience or if you are going to another city you can use that to book the next location.
But if it is your first time, show some love and use my Airbnb code by clicking here. That would be highly appreciated 🙂
Full disclosure – If you do end up signing up using my Airbnb coupon code above, I will also be getting a credit. Airbnb has a great referral program that lets travelers earn credits with them by sharing their code. This way both parties win! And more people using my code means more travel I can do, which means more I can write about on my travel blog!
