Travel Gadget I Want or Bought
Bluetooth Sleeping Eye Mask Headphones – I’ll use earplugs when I’m in hostels or on planes if I have to, but I don’t really like the pressure from them. I’ve found that you can play white noise to drown out the sounds outside and actually help you fall asleep with that. This is also something I found when I was looking into my sleeping trick post mentioned below. It doubles as an eye mask and a set of bluetooth headphones that you can wear to sleep. You don’t have to worry about rolling on your side and having an earbud get jammed into your ear hole with these.
Movies / TV Shows Inspiring Travel
Dark Tourist – This came out last week on Netflix. I haven’t watched it yet but I’m hearing great things. David Farrier goes to different destinations that most people would consider a hellish experience. I’m going to be spending my Friday night watching this crazy New Zealander go to places I likely won’t ever go.
Shark Week – Well that’s actually a bunch of different TV shows, but it is happening right now and my DVR is about to meltdown. I’ve always been scared of the ocean since a bad bodyboarding experience, and definitely scared of sharks like most people. I’ve actually been hanging out with some people that are on Shark Week shows this year and they have been talking me into facing my fear. I’m going to get Scuba certified and plan a trip where I can dive with sharks soon. Wish me luck!
*Side note – Please check out Oceana to learn about ocean conservationism.
The Shining – I saw this classic pop up on some random channel on DirectTV recently and obviously had to watch it. I kind of want to stay in the hotel The Shining was filmed in when I finally make a trip to Colorado.
New Destination I’m Researching
Myanmar (aka Burma) – I matched with a model on Tinder (I think she meant to swipe left) the other day who travels the world doing photoshoots and uses that to sneak off into some more exciting places after her work is over. I asked for some travel recommendations from her and she sold me on Myanmar. I found these photos of ancient temples sprouting out of lush green forests and hot air balloons filling the sky above them.
Myanmar only officially opened its borders to tourism in 2012. The tourist industry is still fairly new and undeveloped, which is actually something that excites me. Imagine going to Rome and seeing what it looked like without it being full of tourist traps and an overabundance of visitors. That’s what Myanmar is like now, but who knows how long that’ll last once the secret is out. Never mind, maybe you shouldn’t visit. Please forget this and never tell anyone about how great horrible Myanmar is 🙂
Travel Posts and Articles I’m Currently Digging
Richard Branson’s Cruise Line is Hiring – Well I am considering a career change right now. I’m not really excited about cruises in general, but I’d love to check out Virgin Voyages when it launches. I’m a big fan of Branson’s Virgin brand culture.
Game of Thrones Final Season Filming Locations – I’m a HUGE Game of Thrones fan and cannot believe they are almost done with it! I do plan on visiting the major GOT filming locations in the next few years. Most locations for the entire series seem to be in Northern Ireland, Southern Spain and Croatia.
U.S. Cities with the Most Freebies – I’ve written most of this down in my travel wish lists so I can stay a budget traveler and not go broke too soon.
Lyft’s New Feature – I will 100% delete my Uber app if Lyft implements this. It’s not that I’m antisocial or anything, there are just some times when you get in a car and need some time to think. It seems like those are the times that you get the chattiest drivers.
Travel Destinations for Science Nerds – This is an old post that I bookmarked a while ago. I’m upset that I’m posting a Buzzfeed listicle, but nearly every place on this list is now on my personal science geek travel bucket list.
My July Posts
How and Why to Be a Tourist In Your City – I recently have been considering moving away from Los Angeles. I’ve decided to start acting like a tourist and seeing all of the great things to do in LA to either make me want to stay or make sure I see everything I can before I leave. This post gives you a guide to figuring out how you can make your own hometown into a travel destination for yourself.
Solo Traveling Date in London | The One that Got Away – I’ve had some, ummm, brief romantic encounters while solo traveling. This is just a story about a real date that I had when I was in London that went really well, but I had a flight back home the next day. What happened next? You’ll have to read to see 🙂
Hotel Indigo London Kensington – Earls Court Review – I really liked this hotel so I decided to write up my first hotel review for my solo travel blog.
Los Angeles Free Museums and Special Free Days [Free Cheat Sheet] – I’m kind of a nerd. If you’ve read any of my blog posts you’d know that by now. I’m also cheap, which is pretty apparent in this travel blog too. Part of my whole tourist at home plan involves plenty of museum trips, so I put together a post and a printable cheat sheet of all the free museum days in Los Angeles.
My Trick to Falling Asleep While Traveling [90% Works Every Time] – I have suffered from insomnia most of my life, and it didn’t get any better when traveling. I stumbled across something that is free, kinda weird, that helps me fall asleep when I’m having trouble passing out.
Free Things to do in Los Angeles [A Local’s Guide] – There are so many times that I just want to get up and do something fun and entertaining in Los Angeles, but I’m also saving money for my next big travel trips. This is my resource for anyone looking for free things to do in and around Los Angeles.
Inspirational Travel Photo of the Month
I mentioned before that I’m currently geeking out over the idea of traveling to Burma. The architecture here looks like something out of this world. It looks like a place that you’ll get the feeling of the history to surround you.
Featured Travel Shirt
I don’t want to get political, I just thought this was a funny travel shirt for Americans abroad that didn’t want to be blamed for being a Trump supporter.
