This post comes from my email newsletter that I send to my subscribers once a month. I do this instead of bombarding the subscribers with emails every time I post something new. I also kind of stole the idea from Tim Ferriss. If you’d like to sign up for free monthly updates sign up here.
I’m thinking about giving away travel gifts or something to subscribers. Maybe if I get 100 new people on the list this month I’ll start picking a random person for a free gift. Thoughts?
Travel Quote of the Month
“It is better to travel well than to arrive.”
-Buddha
When I do research on a trip, I DO RESEARCH ON A TRIP. I’m going to Hong Kong in a few months so I’m currently reading up about the religions there, Buddhism is one of them.
STATS
Currently in: Los Angeles
Next trip: Orlando (I’m going to Disney World with my 4 year old niece)

Movies / TV Shows Inspiring Travel
I know I’m going to get judged big-time for this one, but my current travel inspiration movie is Couples Retreat. I recently started listening to Dax Shepard’s (aka Kristen Bell’s husband)’s podcast. They keep bringing up filming for Couples Retreat so I decided to watch it since it has been a few years. I forget how good that movie is. It also makes me really want to travel to Bora Bora or French Polynesia. I feel like I should save that for when I’m in a relationship with someone though. Ladies, we’ve got a single guy here looking to go to Bora Bora…

New Travel Gadget I Want or Bought
That damn targeted advertising got me. I was on Facebook and I saw an ad for a new backpack on Kickstarter. It’s the new Errant Backpack that looks like the perfect day bag for backpacking. I immediately wrote a post about it so I could try to keep myself busy and avoid spending money to reserve a bag.
New Destination I’m Researching
Last month I was all worked up about Myanmar, but right now I’m taking a deep dive into traveling to Romania. I’m making my next birthday backpacking trip (April) centered around going to Transylvania. Most people want to travel to places like Paris and see the Eiffel Tower. My buddy and I are the types that would rather venture into Romania to see Dracula’s Castle.
Travel Posts and Articles I’m Currently Digging
This Suspension Bridge Is Made From Grass – I do have a fear of heights. Also, when I was a kid I really thought that there would be more situations in my life where I’d be forced to cross a rope bridge. Whenever I make it to Peru, I plan on facing that fear by walking across this grass bridge that is over 5 centuries old.
Monster Hunting Around the World – Definitely, not something I’m going to do, but I thought the idea behind this was amazing. But then again, I’m also the guy flying to Bucharest so I can rent a car to drive 3 hours to go to Dracula’s Castle. Hmm.
10 Cities Where Airbnb Will Save You the Most Money – I was just under the assumption that Airbnb would always be cheaper than hotels, on average, in a given city. There are some helpful charts on this page that show you cities that you should choose an Airbnb rental over a hotel and vice versa.
Oga’s Cantina in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge to Serve Alcohol at Disneyland – I do live in Los Angeles, but I’m 100% Team Disney World. I was an east coaster and also spent a few months working in the Animal Kingdom, so my allegiance is with the big parks. That being said, I’m at least a little excited that I can drink in the Star Wars Cantina in Disney Land now.
My August Posts
I kind of slacked on updating the blog during August. I wasn’t traveling more than a few little day trips outside of Los Angeles that aren’t worth mentioning. I’ve also been working on launching some other niche blogs to start making some additional money to travel more.
The Time I Got an Erotic Massage in Prague – I decided to start being REALLY honest about the things I do when I’m traveling. When I was in Prague I realized it was legal to get erotic aka tantric massages so I gave it a shot. This is my embarrassing story.
The New Day Bag I REALLY Want for Backpacking – I mentioned this one earlier. This is about that Errant backpack that I got super excited about and probably will end up buying soon.
Things to Do in Prague (Solo Backpacker’s Ultimate Guide) – I’m in love with Prague. I want to go back. I want to live there. So I wrote a post about the things I did and wanted to do when I was in Prague to give me a little motivation to book a flight maybe.
Traveler Rant: I Now Realize What My Travel Type Is – Honestly, I was just having a moment here. I think that I needed to write in my journal, but instead, I attacked the blog with the keyboard bashing thoughts of a mad man. Hopefully, some people find the inner workings of my brain entertaining.
What I’m Reading
I always read 3 books at a time:
- 12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos by Jordan Peterson – JP has been pretty caustic in the news lately, but this book really helps ground a person and is helping me with some minor depression I’ve been dealing with lately
- Greek Myths & Tales: Epic Tales – I’m really just being a nerd and reading about the complete history of Greek gods and ancient Greek mythologies. I’m hoping this will bring some extra excitement to my dorkish ways when I go to Greece.
- Homo Deus: A Brief History of Tomorrow by Yuval Noah Harari – He also wrote “Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind” which is one of the most fascinating books I’ve ever read. Homo Deus is also a great book, but it is super dense and I’ve been reading it on and off again for a few months.
